Discover Alanya through its archaeological finds
Alanya Museum is a central cultural stop for exploring the history of the city and its surroundings through archaeological objects. Opened in 1967, it stands in Saray near the beginning of the road leading up to the castle. The garden entrance is on Damlataş Caddesi. A chronological introduction to Anatolian civilisations leads into themed galleries that reveal the region’s connections with the sea, trade and everyday life. The Roman bronze statue of Heracles, one of the museum’s best-known objects, has its own gallery. The Phoenician inscription from Laertes offers a glimpse into the region’s early history. The maritime section includes amphorae, finds associated with ships and the Fishing Erotes Mosaic from Syedra. Objects from excavations at Alanya Castle and coins from different periods help place nearby historic sites in a broader context. Stone objects and an agricultural display continue the experience in the museum garden.
