About this place
Alanya Shipyard forms part of the maritime heritage along the old harbour and castle shoreline. Five vaulted bays combine stone walls with brick arches. Changes in floor level accommodate the rocky coast, while openings in the vaults provide light and ventilation. The shipyard historically supported construction, repairs, equipment preparation and winter shelter for vessels. According to Alanya Municipality, boatbuilding and repairs continued into the 1960s. The museum interpretation now focuses on ships and seafaring. The official description lists an unfinished boat, mast and yard components, shipbuilding tools, anchors and navigational instruments along the wooden visitor walkway. A freshwater well and former administrative rooms show how the complex served needs beyond storing vessels. Visiting alongside the Red Tower and harbour helps place it in the wider story of coastal defence and maritime trade.
